    Thermal BCs

    Hello everyone Can someone give me an advice on how to indicate that a certain surface have a temperature of 20°C and another surface of 80°C? And also indicate the pressure of those surfaces? In order to get thermal and mechanical results of it? I thank you in advance for your help!

  3. Hi, I'm modeling a stiffened sphere subjected to external pressure and to expansion due to high temperature. I performed a geometric non linear simulation considering only the external pressure and now I'd like to evaluate the effect of the high temperature. How can I include it in the analysis?   4. Hi , I have large amount of nodal temperature loads applied on the model. Is there any way to visualize the temperature load using contour plots in hypermesh. Also , incase of PLOAD cards applied on the elements. Can we visualize applied pressure in hypermesh using contour plots? Thanks in advance. Girish
  5. I want the stress and displacement in a component due to change in temperature i.e the deformation due to change in temperature by 40 degree Celcius. How can this be done am not getting the option for temp diff.

    Optimizing a Conduction Analysis Model

    Hi all, My name is Dylan and I can't quite get the software to optimize my model exactly how I have it pictured in my head. I'm fairly new to this type of software as well as optimization itself, so I'm not surprised I got stuck in the first place! I currently am modeling steady state heat transfer through a 2-D radial pipe (much like a cd when you look at it in the X-Y plane). I constrained a temperature (of 3000 K) on the nodes along the inner radius of the pipe and I made a conduction interface on the elements along the outer radius of the pipe (to let the heat out) as well as a heat flux (of -345). When I run the OS analysis option, I get a nice spread for the grid temperature leading to a final temperature (of ~2800 K) on the nodes along the outer radius. So far, I think I am okay up to this point (as some of the numerical analysis I did on a previous flat plate model confirmed that this setup should would). Where I am running into problems is when I try to optimize this model in its current state. I've broken my optimization "wants" into a list. 1) 2 responses, one Vol Frac and one Temperature. 2) 1 constraint, a Vol Frac of 20%. 3) 1 object reference being the temperature on the nodes along the outer radius of the pipe. 3) 1 objective of minimizing the maximum temperature on the nodes along the outer radius of the pipe. AND I'm actually unsure whether I need to use the topology panel to utilize the optimizations available to me any further. If anyone has had any experience trying to optimize for temperature or any heat transfer optimization advice in general to offer, please do! I'll continue working minor changes to see if I can get the optimization to actually run in the coming weeks... -Please let me know if there is any other information I can give about my model that might make it easier to see why I'm running into problems!     linear temperature as a load on nodes

    Hi everyone, I'm conducting coupled thermal/structural stress analysis using Optistruct. As structural loads, I have spcs (load collector:spc) and a rotational force (load collector:rotation using RFORCE as card image).As a thermal load I've linear temperature on the nodes belonging to one surface. For the thermal stress analysis, I've created another load collector named 'temperature' and then I've defined on the nodes linear temperature using the temperatures panel. The load type was set to TEMP according to tutorial OS-1100: Thermal Stress Analysis of a Printed Circuit Board with Anisotropic Material Properties. Then for the load step, I'm creating a single load step using analysis type 'linear static' defining the spcs and loads(rotation) and in the TEMP section I'm choosing 'temperatures' from the load collectors. However I become the following error: *** ERROR # 4800 *** Grid 15361 connected to element 44763 has no temperature specified in load set 3. To apply zero temperature on this grid, SYSSETTING,undeftemp,zero needs to be added to the deck. Can anyone help me solving this problem? Best Regards Mert

  9. Hello guys, I am undergoing master in university right now and my title of my research is "OPTIMISING THE COMFORT IN MOTORCYCLE HELMET BY THERMAL/MOISTURE MAPPING". It is all about the effect of temperature inside the motorcycle helmet during riding a bike. Therefore, it is related to CFD which will effect the thermal energy inside/outside the helmet. The question is, how should I approach this type of case study using HyperWorks? I would be great if you guys attach some of tutorials. - example of vented motorcycle helmet image attached () plus I tried this tutorial (http://training.altairuniversity.com/analysis/thermal/projects/thermal-analysis-heat-transfer/) using HyperWorks version 13 but I stuck with assigning "Conductivity" Tutorials () Mine () Thanks.     Format Temperature

    Hi. I have applied a temperature of 35 °C (through the panel Analysis-->Temperatures) on some of the nodes of my model. When I open the file .fem the id of the node is right next to the value of the temperature. How could one understand what the value of the temperature is just by looking at the file .fem? He or she could say, in my opinion, that the temperature is 5, or 35, or 335... TEMP 3 237335.0 TEMP 3 237835.0
  11. Hello! It seems that it is not possible to specify more than one TEMP or TEMPD load in the TEMP option when defining a static loadstep in optistruct. It is not convenient since it would be nice to organize different temperature zones in different load collectors (for model organization purposes). I looked in the documentation and it seems that the TEMPERATURE Subcase Information Entry does not accept more than one set. Is it possible to put different loadcollector in a LOAD card and specify the LOAD card in the subcase information entry. I think it would require to set the LOADTEMP option to SHAREID in the OptiStruct Configuration File.     Thermal Loading

    We, students of MNIT Jaipur are doing a project related to Thermal Stress in a plate enclosed with a mold of another material. We are using HypperMesh as a tool for analysis of the problem. We have gone through the tutorial "RD-1010: Thermal Stress Analysis of a Coffee Pot Lid" but it doesn't include thermal loading (How to apply temperature loading etc.). Can you please guide us for the same.
  13. The temperature that is specified in the SURFACE_INTEGRATED_CONDITION command corresponds to the "bulk temperature". The bulk temperature is defined as: Tbulk = 1/A * INTEGRAL( Â (rho * Cp * U * T) / ( rho_avg * Cp_avg * U_avg ) ) dA. This is a mass averaged temperature. The SURFACE_OUTPUT command returns the area averaged temperature.
