  1. Hello, I would like to export / output the surface pressures from a VWT CFD to a text file to be utilised in HyperMesh for a topology optimisation using Optistruct. I believe I will need to use AcuSolve's AcuConsole to this. From within AcuConsole I am to use AcuOut. I am having trouble doing so. Can someone offer some guidance. Thank you in advance.
  2. Hello everyone, I think this is a basic question, but I am unable to get it working. I am using Hyperworks 14. I have a block of solid hexagonal mesh and I am trying to add new components by selecting a subset of the elements. I am trying to work with the 'organize' panel option, but I had no success so far. To test it, I created a huge cube filled with hexahedral elements and a small rectangular surface within the cube. I was able to associate few of the nodes by doing 'Geometry ----- node edit ----- associate' and selecting the rectangular surface and small tolerance level. It shows that I have some of the nodes associated to the surface component. Now to select a subset of elements within the cube, I did 'tool ---- organize ----- collector ----- elements ------- by geometry ------ by surface.' It doesnt show any elements associated to this surface even though I have a few nodes associated to it. Could you please help me figure this issue? I checked other questions in the forum, but they dont help because I have a complex geometry to select elements for. Here is a small screenshot of what I am doing.   3. Hi, I've been provided with a hm model and need to carry out some geometry changes. However, the component I have been given is 3D tetrameshed without any surfaces. Is there anyway I can generate a surface from the provided tetra? I've tried using the surface from FE function but as I only have a 3D this wouldn't work. Thanks in advance, Tom
  4. While editing solid component in an geometry cleaned assembly, the components associated with that solid (other solid in contact and extended surfaces) gets automatically converted to solid. Associated other components get merged into single component with the edited solid. Please help!!! NOTE: If association with other components is broken (by trimming solids into parts) than no such problem arises. Any other method without trimming solid. Why does this happen???
  5. Hi All Sometimes I see nodes on the edge of a pipe, made of surface, that are not connected to any edge, but they create problem if you need to create a surface between the pipe and another one ,and make that surface distorted. also it can't be deleted using point edit > suppress

Hi all I have a Solid ( the exhaust manifold) cylinder, where it seems like to be only shells but when I go to features like delete feature, it can be chosen as Solid. the adjacent pipes connected to this cylinder are already surfaces so I could extract the midsurface. how can I convert this middle solid cylinder to surface?

  8. Hello. Maybe a trivial question here, but when a 2D mesh is created on a surface and for some reason a translation of both the surface and the mesh is performed, the association between them is lost (naturally) and then the process of selecting elements or nodes on that particular surface becomes laborious. As far as I know, one can go to Geometry-->Node edit and then select "Associate" to fix this, but only one surface, one line etc. can be selected, making the process hard, or impossible when large meshes have to be processed. Any ideas on how to perform the association faster? Thank you.
  9. CFD Analysis with AcuSolve

    Hello everybody, my name is Thomas from Germany and I am working on my Bachelor Thesis, which is about the topic CFD, at the moment. I am at the beginning of my Thesis and at first i want to create a simple model validation. My topic is about an easy Venturipipe, which gets passes through water. So there are only two variables, which are important: The pressure and the velocity, which i estimate with an analytical calculation, too. The Venturipipe has got a rejuvenation. And if you think about the Bernoulli´s equation, the velocity gets higher and the pressure goes down near the rejuvenation. When the fluid leaves the rejuvenation, the values supposed to be retransform back to the input values. And the model gets unrealistic at this point: When the fluid leaves the rejuvenation, is does not get slower. I create the model data with HyperMesh 13.0. Unfortunately i am not able to find any mistake in the input file, which is computed with AcuSolve. I hope that someone will hear my problem and is able to solve it. Probably there is only a little mistake, which destroys the complete model in the end. Thank you for your support in advance!   10. Hi, This should (hopefully) be a quick Q&A. I have a surface (2-D meshed shell elements) and would like to apply a force constraint to the nodes on the mesh of this surface. My only wish is that the vector of the force constraint be perpendicular to the surface (like constant compression or tension at all points of the surface). Does anyone have experience in this? I was told equations might be where to start but I'm not entirely sure how to utilize that as I'm fairly new into exploring anything other than constant loads.   11. I have a situation where I have 100+ components in a model. I want to pick a surface using the GUI and figure out which component it belongs to. How do I do this? Colour does not help because there are so many components.
  12. I am creating a model using thin shell surfaces for a ship-type structure where the side slopes outwards from the bottom. I would like to be able to cut the side stiffeners on a plane normal to the sloping side, not parallel to the global axes. I have created an axis system with the Z axis normal to the side, but use of this system seems to be very inconsistent in Hypermesh v13. I can create a surface by extruding a line in the local Z direction, but I can't create a line by extruding a node. I can't create nodes using coordinates along the local system. I can't break a surface on any plane except one of the global planes. I have done what I want by creating a vector then a line then a surface and breaking self-intersecting surfaces, but it is very long-winded. It would be so much easier if I could break the surface using local planes at a given base node! Any chance of Hypermesh adding a local system option to the edit - surface - plane form?
  13. Is it possible to plot a 3D surface using tabular data? Currently, all I see is a method to use tabular x,y data and a z expression.

    Hi all, I'm in my Final Year of Uni, studying Aerospace Technology Engineering. As part of my course, I need to complete a Final Year Project. Mine's on Flight Crash Simulation. Now, I've got a surface model of a 757 (I can't upload it for some reason?? - see here), and I basically need to crash it in HyperWorks, I'm assuming using HyperMesh, and then exporting into HyperCrash. My Tutor has no idea how to use the software, and apparently noone in the University has ever used it before. I'm assuming I'll have to convert the surface model into a solid, and then mesh it in hypermesh.... Can someone help me out with the basics? Thanks Cheers Guys, Sam Bancroft
  16. Hi, I have multiple solid components. For my Analysis, I'd like to connect some of the components in certain Areas, but not everywhere where the components "touch". In order to do that, I equivalenced some of the nodes of the two components, which works absolutely fine for my model. But: I would still like to have some of the solids' surfaces not to be connected with equivalenced nodes, but at the same time the surfaces (that are next to each other and in undefined contact) should not be able to penetrate each other during the nodal displacement of a static analysis. How can I create the option that a surface is defined as "not penetratable"? I tried different things, for example creating contact surfaces on each component. But that does not work as I thought it would. Could anyone help me, please? I would be happy to receive any kind of hint or short explanation. Thank you! Regards Hampel
  17. Line and surface numbering

    Hello, Thank you in advance for reading this and for your help. I am currently working on a project where I create a geometry and eventually mesh this geometry in HyperMesh. The key here is, that I use Matlab to generate my TCL/HM code (since the working force here is more aquainted with Matlab than with the TCL code. This code uses certain input parameters and generate information that can be translated to HyperMesh. Now I am at the point where the whole geometry creation using HM/TCL goes perfectly fine, even after some setbacks where I had to cleverly write the program due to the lack of control on the node, line and surface numbering. I'm stuck at the point where I create holes in my geometry, where certain other parts can connect to. The geometry consists of several suppressed edges. These edges do not influence the shape of the geometry, like edges that will change the angle of the geometry will; these suppressed edges just lie in the same plane but are used to create the geometry. The surfaces are all numbered in the sequence of generation, so the first generated surface has ID 1, second has ID 2, etc. I create holes by creating a node at the location where the hole centre should be, create a circle with a given radius around it, trim the existing surface with the line and eventually deleting this circular surface, creating a hole. Note again, this is all done by programming, not by using the GUI. Whenever these circles, hence the trimming, do not intersect with a suppressed edge, everything goes fine. It creates a nice hole in my surface, which has that certain ID. Whenever said circle intersects with a suppressed edge, things go wrong. Say there is a piece of the circle that crosses that suppressed edge. What I would want, is that the surface created by trimming would simply get the newest maximum surface ID. What happens instead, is that the surface gets the ID of the one it is partly intersecting. You must understand, that from a programming point of view, this gives me no control whatsoever of the surface IDs that come after, hence my program fails there. Now, I have thought of ideas on how to counter this problem. For example, I could create a component for every generated surface, and assign it a name, giving me control of the names and not having to look at the IDs of the surfaces anymore. This is not such elegant solution. Instead, I'd like to use different means to solve the problem, for example, by using the ID of the last created surface, rather than the max surface ID. My question to you is, what would you do to solve this problem? Would you go for the component solution? Are there query commands that I haven't looked at? Are there macros to solve this problem? Any help is appreciated. I've added some screenshots that hopefully clarify my situation. Thank you for any help that is supplied!
