  1. Hyperstudy - Design Parameters with Boolean Logic

    In the expression builder within hyperstudy, is there anyway to apply boolean logic? I could really do with adding IF statements. I've looked to the functions tab and there doesn't appear to be an option.
  2. expression builder doesn't open

    Hi all, I am following the hyperstudy e-book, beam.fem example (Hyperstudy 13.0) but I can't access the expression builder (see attached picture). The nominal run has been written, executed and extracted correctly. What can I do to input the responses I want to investigate? I can't even use the file assistant (probably introduced in the version 14.0?)
  3. Bounds Question

    Hi All, Am trying to understand hyperstudy using Shapes and I have encountered a bit of a headscratcher. My plate has a hole with a radius of 50mm and I want to examine the effects of changing that radius. When I apply a shape to it and get to hyperstudy it asks me for an upper and lower bound (default -1 and 1) and an initial of 0. My question is, what exactly do these numbers relate to? When I run it creates a hole 37.5mm and 62.5mm radius respectively, but how does that relate to lower and upper bounds of -1 and 1? OKay it has consistently created a difference of 12.5mm but how did it calculate this? Many thanks in advance. Is there any way I could have just said initial = 50mm, lower = 45mm and upper = 55mm?   5. Hi, We are trying to simulate the HST-AcuSolve Pipe Tutorial as given in the document. We are not able to find the template_srf2.osi file for the definition of file in responses (Step-6 in page 14).   6. Run Path question

    Dear all, We are trying to set a HyperStudy simulation. We have a batch process which calls a tcl file and the we read outputs. The problem goes as follows: In the batch process we need to know at which folders we are currently. When Hyperstudy runs the nominal run for instance, it creates folder C:/Users/user1/Desktop/Gen02/approaches/nom_1/run__00001/m_1/ and copies there our .fem file (input) In our batch we are using param %HST_APPROACH_RUN_PATH% to get the path of that folder. But we are getting the parent folder: C:/Users/inasiopo/Desktop/Gen02/approaches/nom_1/run__00001 So .../m_1/ is missing!!!! How can we get the correct path? Hope we explain it in a good way.   7. Attached is a Hypermesh deck of a structure whose mass I’m trying to minimize. The structure has a square shaped core covered on the top and bottom by composite facesheets. Shell elements have been used for modeling. The size of the square and the thickness of its wall determine the buckling characteristics of the facesheets. I’ve modeled using a square of side 6mm and its wall thickness is 1.5 mm (shown in the snapshot below). By varying the size of this square and changing the wall thickness, I’m looking to minimse the mass, the constraint being that the buckling factor must always be greater than 1.   8. Hello All, I have two questions 1. I am trying to do a DOE in Hyperstudy (2017) with ABAQUS (2017) as Solver. I created a new model, parametrized the XX.tpl file, registered the solver and typed XX.INP in solver input file field. The problem occured when i tried to define a response. I ran the simulation in Abaqus once to get the .odb file. I then put the file in 'approaches\nom_1\run__00001\m_1' to define responses. But when i tried to drag the file into the work area, it says 'file not recognized by Hyperstudy reader' and Hyperstudy text extractor gets selected. Please help me with this problem. 2. Is it possible to do DOE for physical experiments (i.e. without creating an expression for evaluating responses from Design variables) ? Thank you, WBR R: Prasaenna

  10. Hello, I am trying to use Hyperstudy to perform an inverse analysis to characterize a rubber. But in the tutorial (p367 attached pdf) I used, there is an .xy file required (Stress-Strain data points). How can I switch my type file .txt to .xy please?   11. How to define ply percentage & balance constrained in HyperStudy? Following are definition from fem file. DCOMP 1 STACK 2 + PLYPCT 45 20 25 BYANG + PLYPCT 90 55 60 BYANG + PLYPCT 45 20 25 BYANG + BALANCE -45.0 45.0 BYANG I have created model in hm for 32 ply. In hyper stydy I am defining discrete design variable for ply direction which will take up values -45,0,45,90. But I am unable to add ply percentage & balance constraints in hyper study. 32_ply.fem
  12. Beam Optimisation using Hyperstudy

    Hello, I am trying to utilize hyperstudy to optimize a bespoke shell section Beam. Essentially the beam is a hollow I-section but we would like to use hyperstudy to parameterize the thickness. Is this possible? The solver we are using is Optistruct.
  13. in this tutorial, when to set up a fit approach,it require two matrix,one for input,and another for validation, why do this? and when to select the fit mode, the help only says to set the appropriate method, I do not understand this point. whether need I to select the fit method for each above matrix separately? at this point, I think it could not be like that,because the two matrix is in one fit process except we build two fit approachs. for this step, I am frustrated. wish to get some help, thanks in advance!     Hi, I have a model of a plate with many holes that need to be fastened to a beam. I want to make an optimization with Hyperstudy to know where I need to put the bolts to have the minimum stress inside the plate. How can I define my model in Hypermesh, in which Hyperstudy will be able to create all the possible combinations of bolts position for a DOE ? Thank you, Benjamin
  15. Hi, I created a study where I want to analyse the effects of varying plythickness and plyangle of a carbon plate. I defined plythickness and plyangle of every ply as design variable (parameterized file) and then created a DoE. Now i got problems with the response. I dont want to see the composite stress for each Element as itself, but for each ply to have a better overview of the effects. Is there a possibility of filtering my response? By defining my response, I can select the element which is evaluated regarding composite stress. I exactly need the same for selecting a whole ply. Thanks for your support. Regards

  17. Hi, I`m writing my master thesis and I need an help with tutorial HS 4200. I`ve done all the tutorial and I`ve found the parameters shown in the pdf. I`d like to print a comparison plot experimental data vs fitted curve, but I can`t do it. I tried to recover strain and stress in hyperview, but they are different from the experimental stress/strain. Please help me!

  20. Hi there, I would like to perform a design sweep using Hypermorph and Hyperstudy. The responses I am looking for are the Von Misses stress and/or Strain energy density averaged over a set of elements with a given SID. I have given it a fair attempt, but am stuck. I am only able to select one element at a time when defining responses from file sources. Is there a way to reference all elements in a set, average them and return their mean- whether or not in this order? Thank you and Happy hollidays
  21. Hello, is there any literature available on how HMMO is working in HyperStudy besides the online documentation? I have a few problems understanding the exact concept. It would be great to get more information about how the GA opererators and the gradient search steps are used within the iteration steps to find the optimum. In the online documentation it says "HMMO consumes only a few model evaluations (typically 5) for gradient estimation". Which model evaluations are selected for the gradient estimation if they are that few? Does the gradient estimation influence the offspring created by the genetic algorithm in any way? Or are they independant of each other in the way that the GA is used to find a region near the optimum and the gradient search to reach convergence? Thanks for your help!!
  22. Hello, I created a finite element model of a wing in HyperMesh. An experimental modal analysis has been performed on the real model of that wing, so I know what the eigenfrequencies and the eigenvectors are. Now I want to do a system identification in HyperStudy. As a response in this study I want to retrieve the eigenvectors at some nodes from output files of the optistruct solver. Under Define Responses - Expression - File sources I can actually see for the .res output file the option to select the eigenvector at a certain node, however, I can't select for which Mode/Eigenfrequency this eigenvector is. Is there a way to select a Eigenvector as a response at a certain node AND for a certain mode? Thanks!

    Hello, I want result of frequency response analysis in real and Imaginary form in H3D format. I have specified this in load step and also in Global output control . but still I get output in Phase imaginary form. I am want to use this Vectors Real and Imaginary further in Hyperstudy to do Model updating where I have defined my own criteria. Regards Pratik

  25. Response Defination

    hello Group I need to define response from my solver output file (*.h3d) as X axis(frequency) vs Y axis (FRF).. how do i do it in expression builder.. please provide steps for doing it. I tried using freq, frfmag etc from functions tab. was not able to get it. as it expects a vector i dont know how should i refer my frequency and frf response vector values here Regards Pratik
