    Simple Mesh With Uniform Elements

    Hello, I'm trying to mesh a simple rectangular beam (200mmx50mmx50mm) with a uniform mesh throughout as seen in the example photo. When I carry out a 5mm volume tetra mesh it generates uniform elements on the surfaces but this is not the case inside as seen in the attached photo. How can I achieve a uniform element pattern throughout as seen in the example photo? Thanks in advance, Tom
  2. Hello everyone I have a quite complexe geometry to mesh. For this I have applied 'Check Elements Quality Index', where it shows the quality of the elements. Now I would like to know, if there is a possibility to cut the model, to be able to see the inner contours and how the elements looks there. Then I could have a better overview of the situation and know what to change for the mesh. I thank you in advance for your help!
  3. Hello Everyone, I have a complete model in Hypermesh: components, mesh, materials, properties, .... I would like to export that model from Hypermesh to Ansys Workbench, so that someone who does not work with Hypermesh can use Workbench. Firstly, I followed the tutorial HM-4410 from Hypermesh Help (https://altairhyperworks.com/hwhelp/Altair/hw13.0/help/hm/introduction_to_ansys_model_setup_-_hm-4410.htm?toc=0&printWindow). Then, I added sensors for different types of elements and I export a .cdb file; as you can read in the tutorial. Later, I imported the flie .cdb to Ansys Workbench following a You Tube video (How to import Meshed file from hypermesh to ansys). However, when I open the Model clicking twice on the tap Finite Element Modeler, Ansys can't show all type of elements specifically elements 1D (mass, rod, beam, rigids, etc). In my case, the model has rigid, spring, shell, rod and beam elements; so I am reading in several tutorials and forums that rigid elements don't need a sensor but Ansys can't read them. My question is: what do I have to do to get an identical model in hypermesh and ansys? The pictures below show a simple model with that problem. In the first one you can see the hypermesh model with 1580 nodes and 1498 elements (shell, rigid, mass), and the other two pictures depict the ansys model (Finite element model). Ansys model has 1580 nodes and 1495 elements, so the three rigids elements (CERIG) haven not been read. Thank you for your time.
  4. Hi guys, I'm currently developing a complex composite structure und simulated it already with optistruct with shell elements (Mat8, PCOMPP). In order to distuguish different failure mechanisms I need analyse the stress in thickness direction of the structre. For that I used the "shell-to-solid conversion" within the aerospace menu. Now that I have a solid mesh, I'm not sure how to proceed. What property do I assign to the solid mesh ? What material card do I use for it ? Do I need to assign the material orientation to the new mesh again and if yes, how do I do that ? Thanks in advance

Dear all, I am working as NVH engineer. in our case , we use terta solid mesh. my process : first we will make tria mesh and then we will convert into tetra mesh using ( 3D--> Tetramesh--> tetra mesh --> fixed trais/quads to tetra mesh --> simple pyramid --> create per-volume comps --> create. Then the tetramesh will create in a component vol001 ( name of the newly created component). so i need to delete the 2d mesh component and also again i have to rename the component . so i want to simplify my process. i want to create TETRA MESH (3D) in same component where the TRIA elements (2D) are present. but by deleting the 2D tria elements (automatically) during the tetra-mesh conversation process. ??? IS THIS POSSIBLE ? please give your suggestion. so that i can save some time. becoz for every item i need to rename for more than 50 components. thank you.

    Checking elements after meshing gives some percentage of element failed then how much percentage is acceptable.

  8. Hello guys, I want to morph a model but after moving my handles there are always some negative jacobians/folded elements. Also after a small movement (about 1-2mm) there are some folded elements (sometimes only 2 folded elements). The size of my model is around 150mm * 250mm and the element size in the moprhing region is around 0.5mm - 5mm. Is there any options to avoid folded elements? Maybe meshing with smaller elements or bigger elements or try some various options in the "morph" subpanel? It would be great if anybody can help me!

    Boolean Function for Elements?

    Hello, I'm working with a model that contains 2 components. 1. Comp contains surfaces, solids and elements 2. Comp contains lines, surfaces and Elements. A solid can not be created from the surfaces. I used another way though to create Tetraeder Elements to fill the volume contained by the surfaces. The 2nd component is placed within the 1st component. Now I want to cut out the space of the 1st comp, so that the 2nd comp fits in without having the elements of both components overlap. Basically I want to use a boolean function for elements, like the "solid edit>boolean>A-B (del B )" function for solids. But as I can't create a solid from the surfaces of the 2nd comp. I need to go another way than the traditional boolean. Is there something like boolean for elements? Kind regards, Niclas_emi
  10. Hi Guys! I would like to model welds and collect elements from different component to a set, but I have to many components which are connected, therefore this process is fairly slow. I don't have any experience in scripting, but a script could accelerate my work. You can see below one example for this problem. 3 hollow section encounter at the same place and I need to collect the elements to a set from the common edges as you can see at the pictures below. I need to collect elements to sets whose nodes belong to different components. If you could write a script or give me some useful advise I will be very grateful. Thank you for your help in advance!     Using the Probe Command - AFDEX

    Hello people, This post is about using the "Probe" command in AFDEX to directly pick the nodes of interest from the screen and know the values of state variables like Effective Stress, Effective Strain etc. 1.Open the simulation result file (Format: .a2dsrf for 2D and .a3dsrf for 3D, refer AFDEX File types for details) and select the parameter whose value needs to be probed from the post-processor window. In this example, effective stress is selected. 2. Click the "Probe" command from the tool window and select the node of interest. The probed value is displayed on the lower bottom of the screen.   12. Hello, I am quite beginner in Hyperworks and I am currently modelling a laminate (HC panel) with different plies. Whenever I make a modification in the mesh, before running the calculation I need to re-open Ply card and specify elements that are included in each ply, because they are lost due to mesh (thus, element) modification. I am wondering if there is another way to specify plies, because it might be relatively annoying to update this part of the model each time a mesh modification is carried out; in this case, number of plies is not extrenely big, but it can happen that a model consists of many of them, leading to a high waste of time. For example, that instead of selecting elements which would be involved in a ply, surfaces could be selected. Any help would be helpful. Thanks in advance. Regards

    RBE3 Elements are collinear

    When running the optimization feature with Optistruct an error appears at the bottom of the screen, "Unknown beam section data type 'part_InitLengtangeLength' found in file." I'm using a beam section and bar elements to model a rod that transmits stress to the core design. No clue what this means the only issue in model checkers is "RBE3 elements are collinear" and i'm not sure if that could be the cause of the issue. It's just happens to be simultaneous issue in HyperMesh. I'm using RBE3 elements wagon wheeled on a Shell Meshed Midsurface in bore holes to simulate bolts. If anyone has some experience with these issues and could assist me it would be appreciated.
  14. I am creating a triangle shell mesh for tet-meshing. When using Automesh to mesh elements with QI optimize, one can specify a feature angle and a vertex angle. The feature angle is the angle between element normals. What about the vertex angle? The manual says: " Whenever an element vertex exceeds this angle while adhering to features, the element will be split into two elements with correspondingly smaller vertices." The default angle in the field is 30 degrees. Triangles will always have an angle that is greater than 30 degrees. Someone else in the manual it is described as being similar to the feature angle. I can't find an illustration or more detailed explanation of vertex angle. Can someone clarify this for me, please? Thank you. Phil
