  1. Hi together, i am trying to couple different simulations. Therefore i am searching for a method to map results eg. stress (referenced to cartesian coordinates) to equivalent nodes in hypermesh (model/mesh is representing the same geometry) for setting up a new optimization with optistruct.   4. Tutorial OS-T 1600

    Hello, i tried to solve the Optistruct OS-T 1600 Tutorial, but after starting the two solvers (optistruct, acusolve) there is a convergence error of acusolve that stops the job: Messages for the job: *** ERROR # 5202 *** Acusolve stops before FSI iteration achieves convergence. *** PROGRAM STOPPED: FATAL ERROR(s) ENCOUNTERED. Does anyone knows the problem? I checked all steps of the tutorial and start it again, but the error still appears. The next step was to change the convergence criterio of acusolve (convergence_tolerance) and optistruct (fsi card: FCNVTOL, DCNVTOL) and the exchange parameter of acusolve (min/max_stagger_iterations) and optistruct (min/maxEX), but the error still appears. Does anyone has got experience with the tutorial OS-T 1600 and solved it successfull? Thank you very much in advance.
  5. Hello, Since the contact surface is deformed in the current analyses, I would like to use tracking system to obtain the projection of the contact forces on the element surfaces. I could manage to use tracking system for displacement but I could not find a way to use for vectors of contact forces. the toggle A picture of the issue I mentioned, is attached to this message. The swicthed that is written "use tracking system" cannot be activated as shown in the second picture, Thank you for your help in advance.

  7. Shock Absorber

    Hi everyone, i tried to implement shock absorber in a shock analysis in optistruct. I use tutorial in order to set non linear tranisient analysis. I implement with table1d and pbusht the curve ForceVSdisplacement and applying a force i have checked if the the curves is right. Then i have to checked if my model with this non linear springs has a right answer to established input. In this case the model is loaded with an initial displacement and a gravity. Finally i hate to load model with a curves VelocityVSTime. Now i'm stopped at check problem. My doubt are: the initial dislacement is inserted with IC and TIC in model but in the result there isn't initial dipslacement. Why? The tstep is calculated by solver? Is possible have a fixed timestep? maybe more simple simulate this problem with a explicit solver as Radioss? Thank you for the answeres
  8. Hi, I happened to run a linear static analysis on a model. Everything worked fine. After that I had to rerun the same analysis on the same model BUT I had to add on EVERY NODE of the model an acceleration of about 10g using the card ACCEL1. The analysis got stucked after few minutes on the same screen. It has been like that since several hours. I don't know what it is...it's just as the solver got...stucked. Does anyone has an idea of why this is happening? I will now upload the .stat and the .out files, should there be some more informations, let me know.   9. Adhesive connections

    Hi, I'm currently experimenting with different connection types to simulate adhesive bonds. I want to find the best way to analyze large scale bonded shell models. So far I've been examined different options for area connectors, such as: shell gap, mid thickness, etc. The problem I have is that when I increase the adhesive thickness I get some incorrect results. Up to 3 mm in thickness, all the results seem acceptable, but with 5 mm and 10 mm thickness it looks false. More details: I use Optistruct, and running a Linear Static analysis The adhesive layer seems too rigid, although I use the real parameters of the glue. It seems like the glue is trying to maintain its position (perpendicular) to the sheet, and isn't deforming enough. My question is: is there any rule regarding the range that a connector type can be used in? (For example: area connector in shell gap mode is good for adhesive layers in the 1-3 mm range.) Or in other words, is there a limit thickness where adhesive area connectors can't be used anymore? I attached the model I was using. Also, what modelling method can you suggest to analyse large scale shell models with adhesives (for example: a boat)? Thanks, Sebo kiskocka_slp_9.hm
  10. Hello, I am running a topology optimisation using Optistruct. I am trying to look at the key structural members of an aerospace component. I am attempting to use a low volume fraction of ~3-6%. When the volume fraction is particularly low does this effect the solver's ability to converge? Thank you in advance
  11. Hello, I am running a topology optimisation using Optistruct. The results I am getting for a standard min. compliance, constrained volume fraction run without any manufacturing constraints are invalid. The simulation runs but the results do not show any clear structural members but mostly very low density material. However, when I use minimum member size control, extrusion constraints and change the discrete value the results achieved are valid (show structural members). Is there a way to chance the minimum convergence parameters to encourage the solution to find a valid structure for on optimisation without manufacturing constraints. Thank you in advance
  12. Optistruct input options

    Hello, I was once told by a colleague before running an optimisation with optistruct to use the control parameters '-ncpu 8 -core IN'. This was to make the simulation run faster. To my understanding '-ncpu 8' ensures the simulation utilises the computers 8 cores. However, I do not know what the '-core IN' does. Can anyone offer any insight into the meaning behind this and if it actually helps with the simulation speed. Additionally, if there are any other optistruct option inputs that could be used to speed up the simulation then please let me know what they are. Thank you in advance.
  13. Hello, I would like to tetra mesh my component from a 2D mesh of trias that already exists. The 2D mesh must remain constant as it has a load applied to it that cannot be changed. The problem I am having is that the tetra mesh option 'fixed trias to tetra mesh' produces large size elements in the middle of the model. I would like to constrain the maximum size of the 3D tetra mesh so its does not increase in size in this way. Is this possible? Thank you in advance
  14. Error Running an FEA

    Hi, I am trying to run an FEA on a truss section. The setup is that it is supported on both sides, with a 937.5 psi load distributed over a 4" by 4" square. After I went through the setup following a tutorial, I tried running it and it gave me the following error. As of now I put a dconstrain on the magdisp, but I'm not sure if that was right. I'd appreciate any help. I have attached the file below. Messages for the job: *** ERROR # 1908 *** Case Control data LOAD=2 is not referenced by any bulk data relevant for used subcase type. *** Run terminated because of error(s) in the input data.   15. Bearing Analysis

    Hey! I am trying to perform a structural and transient analysis on a Roller Element Bearing model. I am able to perform simple static analysis but I would like to utilize Hyperworks to simulate the following conditions: Inner race to be rotating with a constant velocity and a fixed radial load is applied. Outer race is fixed. The balls should also be rotating. I wish to know: 1. How I can give a constant velocity to the inner race of the bearing while also allowing the balls to rotate? Which card am I supposed to use? 2. What kind of contact constraint should I apply. Right now I am working with slide contact only. 3. Is quasi static analysis adviced or implicit non linear? There is one video but in a different solver which does what I have been trying to do. I wish to do it in Hyperworks.   16. Hello, I would like to export / output the surface pressures from a VWT CFD to a text file to be utilised in HyperMesh for a topology optimisation using Optistruct. I believe I will need to use AcuSolve's AcuConsole to this. From within AcuConsole I am to use AcuOut. I am having trouble doing so. Can someone offer some guidance. Thank you in advance.
  17. Hello, I would like to simulate a void as a region within my model that should not experience any deformation - to not damage any structure that may be place there e.g. a bearing. This is to be for a topology optimisation simulation, then how (if it is possible) can it be approached so that the optimal topology maintains the shape of the void? To expand, if I have a circular hole where a bearing should be placed and I do not want the deformation of the model to damage this bearing, how can I contrain the hole to maintain its shape during the topology optimisation? I would not like to use RBE2s or a nondesign space as this will effect the way the load paths are transferred. Will RBE3s work? If not, is there an alternative? Thank you in advance.

Dear all, A month ago , i am using OPTISTRUCT solver to conduct Normal mode analysis. we have changed the solver from Nastran to opitstruct. so i have few questions. 1.with using one optistruct license, is it possible to do multi tasking. ( Means, to conudct two or more analysis at a time). 2. is it possible to increase the speed of analysis. because i can see the cores & processors option. 3. Any import tips or tricks to ease the analysis process. if you guys know the answer for any of the above question. please do let me know.

  23. Hello, I am looking to constrain a hole of a 3D model. I am currently using RBE2s (with all 6 DOFs on) within the hole and applying a constraint to the independent node in all 6 DOFs. Doing this I am able to successfully run the optimisation. However, I want to simulate a bar constraint where the model can rotate about the y axis but no others. I have tried deselecting the 5th DOF on both the RBE2s and constraint but this results in the optimisation failing. How do I go about applying constraints to all DOFs but 5 (moment around the y-axis)? Additionally, I am using RBE2s currently as I can apply a constraint to these. However, ideally I would be using RBE3s as these will better represent my problem. Is this possible to set up with the constraint in limited DOFs in mind? Thank you
  24. Problems with the GUI

    Hey there, since a while my Panel is cut off at the side (see screenshot - on the bottom right). Restarting the Programm / PC didn't help. Deactivating Panels in "View" and reactivating neither. Does someone know this problem and could help me with it? Thank's in advance! Cheers
  25. Hello everyone I have a quite complexe geometry to mesh. For this I have applied 'Check Elements Quality Index', where it shows the quality of the elements. Now I would like to know, if there is a possibility to cut the model, to be able to see the inner contours and how the elements looks there. Then I could have a better overview of the situation and know what to change for the mesh. I thank you in advance for your help!
