    OPTISTRUCT - Contacts

    Hi all, I have a model with multiple contacts and have been using N2S contacts. I've found that in some of my loadcases, these contacts produce excessively and unrealistically high loads. I've checked to assure there is a sufficient gap between master and slave components and have even tried changing to S2S, PARAM EXPERTNL CNTSTB... in every case the the contact in question remains an unrealistically high stress or another contact which was previously low force suddenly becomes massive. The way I set the models up is to select contact surfaces for both slave and master and select slide option, I don't apply any clearance or srchdis values. Anyone any suggestions? Alas I cannot share the model.
  2. Hello,Forums I am doing analysis of a unique CFRP pipe by Optistruct. I am receiving this following error message: *** ERROR # 605 *** Element 1 is referenced by STACK 1 (on PLY 1) and by STACK 2 (on PLY 5) simultaneously. Different stacks are created by dividing the upper and lower areas of the pipe into sets. There seems to be an error because it refers to the same element Is there any good way to do it? (Modeling is possible but analysis is error) CFRP-PIPE-Asymmetric laminated.hm

    Heat transfer analysis

    Hello all! can i solve issue is like this? i have 2 plates ( but plates are not a siple form) which are separated by air. how can i solve it task? is it possible in optistruct using heat transfer analysis. i have created 2 interface convection. 1-plate blue and point 2-point and plate brown. but it doesn't work. plate blue heated (in blue plate is root of heat), but the brown plate was cooling=( Do you have any idea? thanks.

    Symmetry Constraint in Size Optimization

    Hello, I am working on design optimization of an aircraft component. I have obtained the shape of the required object using a topology optimization and am interested in refining the thickness of the part using a Size Optimization. However, I am unable to find an option to create a plane of symmetry in the DESVAR card or any other location. The results obtained from the optimization show a density distribution that is not symmetric either. Is there anyway to do this? Please let me know. Thank you!

  7. Hello, I am trying to run optistruct from the command line in MATLAB. I have been able to run it using the line; system('"C:\Program Files\Altair\2017\hwsolvers\common\tcl\tcl8.5.9\win64\bin\wish85t_os.exe" "C:\Program Files\Altair\2017\hwsolvers\scripts\hwsolver.tcl" -solver OS -icon "C:\Users\e-tru\Documents\beam_maker_altair_44.fem"') But I also want to be able to output the element densities and .sh file after an optimization and have been unable to do so. I have tried invoking optistuct.bat to see if that would help me and used the line; system('"C:\\Program Files\\Altair\\2017\\hwsolvers\\scripts\\optistruct.bat" "C:\Users\e-tru\Documents\beam_maker_altair_44.fem"') Unfortunately it did not work and the following error was generated; ERROR in hwsolver script execution: couldn't write file "beam_maker_altair_44.err_39816.out": permission denied *************************************** What does this mean? How can the .sh file and densities .dens file be generated by calling the optistruct in the command prompt (in MATLAB)? My operating system is Windows 10, Hypermesh version 2017 and MATLAB R2017b.   8. Hello community, I got a little bit confused while reading the OptiStruct 2017 User’s Guide. There I found that OptiStruct selects automatically the best optimization algorithm. Five items have been listed there (page 10-11): - Optimality criteria method - Convex approximation method - Method of feasible directions - Sequential quadratic programming - Advanced approximations . My question is: Does OptiStruct still selects the Optimality criteria method automatically? And for which type of optimization? There is no information about it in the User’s Guide or Reference Guide. I want to optimize the topology of the 2 dimensional MMB-Beam (see atteched figure). My objective is to minimize compliance subjected to a volume fraction constraint. I found that for my type of problem I shoud use 'OPTMETH=DUAL' since I have a large number of design variable and only one constraint. So I cannot choose the Optimality criteria method in topology optimization? Many thanks in advance Nahid
  9. Hello, I have a laminate with 3 plies. I want to optimise the orientation of these plies such that the deflection of the laminate is minimum under the applied load. I can only perform composite shuffle, but I'm not able to optimise the ply angles. Please advice as to how to proceed to solve this issue Thanks, Kushal.

    Hi, I am trying to learn fatigue using optistruct , Please share me with the videos and fem files regarding fatigue. I already went through the fatigue tutorials in optistruct If I put all of the fatload into one fatevnt, are they now occurring simultaneously?     parametric optimization

    Has anyone done parametric optimization in optistruct-hyperstudy? i want to do that crossbar can slide through frame. I defined morph volume. But i don't know how can i connect desvar and morph volume? Is it right way? i have seen just size/shape configuration, so it's not my way. i had tryed to save volume and looked for txt file. it doesn't consist elements, so i can't use it in hyperstudy. could anyone explain me how does it works?=) Thanks.
  13. Hi, I am a new user of hyperworks and i generally work with ansys workbench, I have been trying to verify the results of same mesh on both softwares but I am not able to get the same results.     Bearing Analysis

    Hey! I am trying to perform a structural and transient analysis on a Roller Element Bearing model. I am able to perform simple static analysis but I would like to utilize Hyperworks to simulate the following conditions: Inner race to be rotating with a constant velocity and a fixed radial load is applied. Outer race is fixed. The balls should also be rotating. I wish to know: 1. How I can give a constant velocity to the inner race of the bearing while also allowing the balls to rotate? Which card am I supposed to use? 2. What kind of contact constraint should I apply. Right now I am working with slide contact only. 3. Is quasi static analysis adviced or implicit non linear? There is one video but in a different solver which does what I have been trying to do. I wish to do it in Hyperworks. Here is the link: Also please suggest whether optistruct's non linear can be used or whether I should switch over to a different solver module! Cheers
  16. We are trying to analyze composite PIPE. When creating a cylinder surface and simply creating Piles and Laminates, it is stacked with the surface as an intermediate plane as shown in the attached image. (Cylindrical surface is white line) For example, are there methods such as stacking layers from the outermost layer toward the inside? (I do not want to change the diameter of the cylinder)

    Non-linear modal analysis

    Hi everyone, I am currently trying to perform a modal analysis of a component AFTER it has been loaded with a force. During the loading step, some parts of the component engage in SLIDE type contact. I use OPTISTRUCT. I currently plan to make two loadsteps for the analysis: 1.A non-linear quasistatic step during which I load my model and contacts are engaged 2.A normal modes analysis which should compute the modes for the deformed structure obtained after step1 Is this possible in Optistruct?   20. hello, I am working on model of pressure plate which have axis offset. A shaft passes through it. when pressure applied (in x-y) on the pressure plate due to the offset one side of pressure plate will have more pressure. Which causes rotation on around z axis. As the shaft passes through z-axis. Shaft and pressure plate are in contact.. As pressure plate will rotate it will tend to rotate the shaft. I want to find out for particular pressure how munch is torque is generated. i want to get torque as output when pressure is applied. how to get torque as direct output

    Hypermesh Interface Setup for Optistruct

    Hi all, I am a beginner here. I am trying to create a contact between a tank and its support (an interface). What should I look out for? What parameters will tell me its a good connection or I have made an error. and what kind of checks can I perform before the actual analysis? As of right now, after the interface, when I apply a force on the tank, the contours do not show up on the support even if a increase the load considerably which tells me somoething is not right with the connection between the two parts. I import the tank and support in the same file but as different parts and I then I use solidmap mesh on the two parts separately and equivalence the nodes. Any help would be highly appreciated.   22. Hi all, Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) is usually used as a package material. A quasi-static compression test was done to test its material behavior. In order to validate the material stress-strain curve from the compression test, a simulation should be done. The velocity of the compression test was about 5mm/min, so I think a static nonlinear analysis in optistruct may be proper. However, I don't know which material model is suitable for EPS foam material which has both hyperelastic and plastic behavior. Any suggestions? Roy

  24. Hello Guys, I want to reanalyse my results from a topology optimization. As the part has thick walls, I don`t want to calculate with a surface-mesh. Is it possible to do a reanalysis with solid-mesh? (If yes - how?) Thank you Cheers
  25. Hi everyone, Could you help me understand the phenomema that I describe below ? I conducted a non-linear analysis with activating LGDISP. After comparing the results with and without LGDISP, I found that there is a big difference in displacement. If I don't activate LGDISP, the displacement of model is very large. Otherwises, the displacement becomes small with LGDISP. I don't understand this phenomena. Note : In my model, I have plastic material so with small young's modulus , but just linear comportement is taken into account (I don't have informations on parameters for determining its non-linear comportement). I implemented non-linear analysis because of contact phenomena. Thanks for your helps.
