How to give angular velocity.

I am trying to simulate contact pressures developed between cylinder and a thin shell. A thin shell is rotating on the circumferential surface of the cylinder. Aim is to calculate the contact pressure generated due to angular velocity. In this case the cylinder is stationary and the rotating member is the thin shell. I want to give either angular displacement or angular velocity to the shell so that it would travel on the cylindrical surface.

This is the demo model we can consider. In this the pink elements will be sliding on the cylindrical surface considering z as axis of rotation. I gave in ZZ but the deformations i cant find as sliding along the surface. Do i need to provide a local coordinate sys at the node shown in this fig? The value i will  be providing for imp velocity is in rad/sec? and how to create output files for such?

Hi Nachiket,

Please try with global coordinate system and lets review the output. The rotation velocity will be in radians/sec.

For contact pressure output, include /ANIM/VECT/PCONT in the engine file and /ANIM/VECT/CONT for contact forces.

Now that i got how impose the velocity the next prob comes is it is not creating any contact pressure at interface at coeff. of friction of 0.1 approx. I tried using type 3 contact also but not getting results for it. i am trying this with GAP min of 1. Physically there is 1mm gap between surfaces. The Gap min theory suggest to give value in meters that is 0.001m. i have tried it with 1 and 0.001 as gap min value. But getting 0 as contact pressures.

Hi Nachiket,

In RADIOSS user profile, go to 2D panel, select elem types option, select all the elements (in 1d and 2d-3d options) and update and try running the analysis.

If the problem persist, please share the model file.
