  1. Hi All how should I choose the external surface of a spherical shape as a surface , when I also have meshed it ? I tried elements but the problem was that I could not use any option to select all the elements on the external surface, options like adjacent ,etc don't work
  2. Contact definition and Type 7

Hi all I was watching a video on youtube , where the contact creation brings the user to choose among the Contact Type 7 or Type 11, but what I see in lower versions is just CONTACT, GROUND, CONVECTION ,...etc I would like to know how to choose the Contact type in versions 13 and lower
  3. SPCF-Problem

Hey, I try to simulate a large displacement movement and have a problem. I got two simulations and want to evaluate the SPC-Forces, which are completely different, although the model is the same. The constraint is placed in the middle of the green component and connected to it, with rigids (see Figure). In the first simulation, the total displacement of the green component is 350mm (due to constraint) in x-direction. In the second simulation the total displacement is 50mm. When I evaluate the force-displacement plots and compare them, the results are completely different, which makes no sense. For example, in the first model the force at 50mm displacement is 6,7e+05 N. But for the second model, the force at 50mm is only 8,19e+04 N. But they should be totally the same to my opinion. Somebody any hints? Greets Elvis
  4. Two bodies are connected by means of bearing (upper race and lower race bolted to respective bodies). Detailed analysis (ignore bearing model) is not required. What type of connections could be given between two components? Can we assume a block instead of bearing, and give what type of connections?
  5. Hi All How do we assure a mesh continuity on the border between two spherical parts, one inside the other one, in contact with each other?
  6. MIdsurface extension

I have 2 parts forming t section whose midsurface is extracted which creates gap between the parts,to overcome the same i extended the one surface and projected on other , after meshing nodes gets merged is their any need to define contact between the parts as i want to fix these parts ?
  7. Hi all, In my model, there are many contacts. From the result, I found the contact energy was large. How can I find which contact makes the large contact energy? In LS-DYNA, each contact energy can be output separately. However, in Radioss, it seems that we can only output total contact energy through global variables. Best Wishes Roy
  8. No elements added to BSURF card

Hello, I have updated the software from the 14 to the 2017.1 version and when I am trying to select the 2D elements to add to the BSURF group in order to define contact in a BCTSET card in NX Nastran user profile, no elements are selected. Is this a bug of the software or has there been a change in the way to specify contact of which I am not aware of? Thanks in advance.
  9. Dear all, I am trying to define a multi-body deformable surface contact for Optistruct using MBDCNTDS type of interface. Below image shows the doc page for this type of interface. As the docs say, I have made an MBDSRF type node set to use as the deformable surface. I am able to pass this MBDSRF type of set into the SRFID entry of the MBDCNTDS . So no issues with the deformable surface part. However, when I try to make a node set for the SID1 entry in MBDCNTDS, it will not accept any of my node sets which are saved as entity sets. I have tried using many different card images (SET_GRID and many other), still, the SID1 entry of the MBDCNTDS I'm setting up will not see my node set. I would be grateful if you could share any information with me regarding the type of node set I should use which can be passed into the SID1 entry of MBDCNTDS. Relevant info: I'm using Hyperworks 2017 Best regards, Deniz Bilgili
  10. Hi all, I want to set up contact between two bodies in optistruct for modal and frequency response analysis, but I don't know how to do it? Is there any example for reference the detail process? Thank you Best Wishes Roy

  12. matching mesh

I want matching mesh between two faces of different component. How to do this in simlab?
  13. Contact

Hi, What is the best contact type generally? if the answer is type7, what is the best properties of type7 contact?
  14. Contact Penetration

Hello, i am simulating a contact (slide) between a pin and a lug. At the beginning of the motion everything is fine, but at the end the pin is penetrating the lug. The pins displacement is implemented with a constraint. I already tried to change master and slave, but it didn't work. I have no idea what to do next, do someone have some hints maybe? I attached a screenshot of my card settings and the movement of the pin.
  15. sir, where can i find full vehicle file of taurus for crash in radioss forum?

  16. Friction Heat

Hello there, basically I am doing an analysis of our brake disc for formula student in radioss. So far the structual part works and the energies look fine. The next step is to get the thermals in there. In the documentation for the type7 interface there exist an Fheat. But I can't find it in Hypermesh. So my Question is whether the enegry transformation into heat is working or not if only I_the is activated. Another strange problem I am facing at the moment is that if i define a starting temperature in Ti and T0 (~300 K) the results still show me 0 K. By the way I am using Block 120 because on the cluster only 120 is installed. Looking forward for some help.
  17. Contact Thermal

Dear All, I try to do simple heat transfer simulation by following OS-1385. when I run the simulation I got Error 1000 message, I know that the CGAP material does not have material, but in the OS-1385, the CGAP also doesn't have material too. Please your advise. Best regards, Iron_man CASE01.fem
  18. Hi, I am wondering if somebody could help me defining contact between to surfaces so that I can easily update the contact definition in the input file. The problem is stated as follows: I am pressing two beams together and would like to perform FRF modal analysis on the beams. With an optimization routine, I would like to update the contact definition between single nodes and surfaces to be either stuck, slipping, or not in contact, and match an experimentally obtained FRF. In order to solve this problem, I need to define the contact in a way that I can easily update the contact definition between single nodes and surfaces in the input file. In this initial analysis, I define the contacting interfaces to be stuck and am hoping to understand the input (.fem) file, hoping to be able to figure out how tho change the contact definition from stuck to slide within the .fem file. Attached are the .fem file and the .hm file. Could you explain to me the entries in the .fem file in: Line 61 (+ 21603 13616 13929 1) Line 1762 to 1778: How is contact defined here? Is it between the sets of nodes? Can I change that to single nodes? Is grid data the nodal position? Is CHexa Data the element definition? I hope this description is sufficient to help me solve my problem. Thank you, Kevin 170706_FRF_HZBeam_FullyStuck.fem 170706_FRF_HZBeam_FullyStuck.hm
  19. Fricional contact analysis

I am trying to simulate an autofrettage process with the optistruct solver but i am not able to get any plausible results. In theory the process and simulation should be quite easy. We have two parts: a swage and a tube. The swage (which has a slightly bigger outer diameter than the tube) is pressed through the tube which results into contact with friction and plastic deformation in the tube. I meshed both the swage and the tube (only one quarter of each and conditions for symmetry to reduce the calculation time), defined all the boundary conditions like constraints and the load (forced displacement of the swage) but somehow the contact condition doesn't work at all. I read several tutorials and have tried different combinations of contact-surfaces or set-entities which were linked by a contact interface. I tried the preset contact types like slide/freeze/stick as well as a contact property with MU1/MU2 coefficients. When I use slide or freeze (images below) I get extremely high deformations and it looks like the points where the first contact occurs don't separate anymore, In addition to that I don't understand how they can already be in contact at that point since the contact should occur later when the bigger diameter hits the edge of the tube. Displacement scale factor is always set to 1.0. When I use the contact property (pcont) the calculation takes forever and I don't get any results (no convergence). I already tried to increase the number of iterations up to 50 and NINC up to 25. I would really appreciate any helpful advice or maybe someone with experience could check my model file. test_12.hm
  20. Hi, I am working on a laminate optimization. I'd like to do the three phases: Free Size Optimization, Size Optimization and Shuffle Optimization mentioned in the composite manual. My question is how can I connect the element faces in the 3rd direction with other elements of different components. In the attached picture I would like to connect the yellow part with the different laminate layers. Are there any solutions available, I could not find equal problems in the composite manual. thank you in advance, Martin
  21. Hello, I am trying to build a rigid mbd model with rigid bodies engaging in 2D rigid-to-rigid contact. I have defined curves where the contacts will occur, using the Add Curve functionality. Attached images 1.png, 2.png and 3.png from my curve panel, showing the settings I am using for all three contact curves. As you can see, in the Z direction, they all have the same value as 0. So they are indeed coplanar as they all line on the XY plane. I proceed to define a 2D rigid-to-ridig contact. Attached image, contact.png, shows my settings for one of the contacts I use. I have also made sure to correctly define the contact sides; so there are no problems there either. Finally, attached image, error.png, shows two of the error messages I'm getting. All my error messages are the same so I am only showing those two. It is telling me my curve graphics are not coplanar. However, what it seems is that they actually are indeed coplanar. I would be grateful for any help to fix this problem. Best regards
  22. Hello, I'm modelling a complex structure in Hypermesh with Nastran profile and I need to connect two components. One is a tube meshed with pshell elements while the other is a solid meshed with psolid. The tube is perpendicular to the solid surface but I cannot have the same mesh for various reasons. In Abaqus I would use a tie constraint between the edge of the tube and the surface of the solid but I can't understand how to do so with Nastran and Hypermesh. I tried to use the cards BSURF, BCONNECT AND BCTABLE but I'm not able to figure out how they works. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thank you! Stefano
  23. Contact modeling of gears

Hi, I am doing spur gear to spur gear transmission analysis on motionview (gears have module 1 & teeth of the gears are 28 and 82). I used the rigid to rigid type gear contact and used poisson model with parameters as ,penalty = 1000, COR = 1, Normal transition velocity = 1mm/s to define the contact. I gave uniform rotational speed to the gear with 28 teeth and i requested for the output of rotational speed of the gear with 82 teeth. Theoretically i should be getting output plot to be a straight line with slope 0 & 1.024 rad/s (marker velocity) above x axis (time), but i am getting a curve which is not throughout straight line, plot shows a max peak of 7 rad/s velocity as well. What could be the issue for this?
  24. Modeling of an large bearing

Hello everybody, I'm a Student and have to do a thesis. The thesis is about a FEA about an large bearing. But I'm a beginner in Hypermesh. Does someboby has some tips for modeling of the isssues "initial bolt prestress", "hertzian stress" and general Information which is important to consider?
