  1. Hello! We have the following problem by using OSSmooth for a FEA reanalysis: Our component is made up of a core (blue) and a shell (red/orange). The core has Hex 8 3D-Elements with the Card Image MAT 1 and PSolid. In order to create a shell around the core of the component, we used the tool "Find Faces". Thus we got a shell around the core with Quad 4 2D-Elements. We used the Card Image MAT8 and PShell with an offset to the outside T=2mm. Therefore there should be no intersection between the two kinds of elements (see figure 1). Both the core and the shell was defined as design space so that we optimized them both in a successful optimization. See figure 2: Holes and notches were created in the shell as well as in the core. Afterwards, we tried to import the optimized geometry with OSSmotth by using the following settings: FEA Reanalysis, iso surface, remesh, trias as mesh type and two layers attached. As a result the 3D-Elements has been updated according to the optimization result, but not the shell (see figure 3). Furthermore we got a very questionably visualization of the shell elements: At the attachment points between core and shell, the shell elements strangely stick to the outside and inside (see figure 4 and 5). Are there any mistakes in our settings or in the modelling? Thank you very much in advance for your tips and advices! Greetings Martin
  2. Hello, I am running lattice optimization on certain shapes that I would like to 3D print. I was wondering if a separate tool or software is required/can be used to make the obtained lattice structure manufacturable? What would be the method for manufacturing the varying lattice densities?     Checking elements after meshing gives some percentage of element failed then how much percentage is acceptable.

    Hi, I meshed my model with 3D tetrahedral mesh. When I check elements, I came to know that there is an existence of Several values which can ba varied based upon our requirement. I need a Optimum value or constant or Predefined value to check 3D tetrahedral elements. Thank you in Advance
  5. Tetrahedral Remesh

    I recently meshed my Solid component by using Tetramesh. When I supposed to remesh with my preferred values (Tetra angle, Quad angle or biasing), I cant find a variable meshing option. How to remesh with my preferred value? Thank you in advance.
  6. When to use surf mesh and Solid mesh in Tetramesh?

    I imported a 3D solid element. When I supposed to mesh using Tetramesh, only surface mesh alone be used to mesh. I cant use Solidmesh. May i know the reason please... Thank you in advance.
  7. FEM Simulation of 3D Fiber Structures

    Dear HyperWorks Team, I have a question regarding the Fiber Optimization with Optistruct. Is it possible to not limit the optimization of Fiber Directions inside a solid to a 2D layer? More specifically I am working on a project where we put Carbon Fiber Tows into a Wooden Base Product in a completely free manner (the Carbon Fibers can be put as fully three-dimensional Spline Curves inside the Base Material). Therefor I am looking for a Tool where I can simulate both 1. the Anisotropic behaviour of the Wood, built from various layers/directions 2. Optimize the 3D-Structure of Reinforcement Tows of Carbon Fiber inside this Base Material. I am pretty confident, that 1. is possible, but I couldn't find documentation for anything like what we want to do in 2. Can you help me out with this?
  8. Hello dear forum visitors, AFDEX 3D can read AFDEX 2D results files either directly or by means of a simple connecting program, and thus 2D and 3D combined simulations can easily be carried out. Of course, the 2D results can be viewed by the 3D post-processor with more powerful graphics functions. Figure 1. shows the predictions of a five-stage precision cold forging process involving one piercing stage and a final three-dimensional stage, obtained by using the 2D and 3D combined simulation capability with minimum user intervention (i.e., with only an initial run and one connection run). Figure 1: 2D and 3D combined simulation - AFDEX It should be noted that this capability is especially efficient for fastener forming process simulation. The 2D and 3D combined simulation is strongly recommended for enhancing computational time, solution reliability, and engineering productivity when relatively few stages are three-dimensional.   9. Solid Mapping issue

    Hello, I am trying to 3D mesh this solid part by using solid mapping. I tried "trim with surf" to make the part mappable but I don't think I can create surfaces/divisions good enough for solid mapping.I am also attaching the partially trimmed version. Which method I should follow to make the rectangular sides mappable and get rid of the red layer in the cylindrical part? Thank you in advance, Muge

  11. Exported STL has 0 KB

    Hi, I used OSSmooth to Import an Isosurface into Hypermesh from a previeous optimisation. I want to export part of an assembly to stl, so I can't directly use the export from OSSmooth. When I create the faces from the "find faces" panel and try to export as stl. The resulting file is created but has 0 KB and no model inside. I don't know what I can try to resolve this issue as there is no error message. Greetings from Germany, Marius
  12. Hello Everybody, I am trying to convert a shell to a solid, using aerospace optistruct porfile. After realizing all plies the instruction says the §D Element Types have to be converted from SC8R to SC6R. The problem I have is, that, in the element panel there is no SC8R type, but in the Help Document i is stated, that the shell to solid conversion is supported by optistruct solver. Can anybody help me with this problem? Kind regards in advance Dean

  14. Multiple bodymesh to Moldflow

    Hi, I try to make a core shift simulation (multiple bodies) in Moldflow with boundary layers. I used the boolean operation to find the common faces and meshed them after this. The nodes look good, I do not see any intersection or failure, but in Moldflow I always get an error: ** ERROR 304717 ** A node has been found which belongs to both a part element and another element which is not in the part. This is not supported. Please check the mesh connectivity and the element property types. Does anybody know, how can I fix this? Regards, Béla
  15. Loads and Constraints on Surfaces

    Hello community, I have a question concerning to apply loads and constraints on 3D surfaces. I have created a solid model from a 2D surface. If I do a 3D multi solid mesh and apply the constraints and the pressure onto the two surfaces (see figure 1), I will get a result. And I can see that every node on the surface is constrained and all elements on the surface are applied with a pressure force. If I create a 2D mesh first and drag the elements along the thickness of the model for a 3D mesh and then apply the constraints and pressure onto the surfaces, I will get no results. And further I can see that not all nodes on the surface are constrained and not all elements on the top surface are applied with a pressure force although I have selected the two surfaces (see figure 2). Why can't I apply the constraints and pressure on surfaces if I create a 3D mesh from a 2D mesh? And why is it possible if I mesh the model with the multi solid subpanel? Thanks in advance.
  16. Hi to all, i'm trying to simulate a plate (PCOMP) in which the central layer is a honeycomb layer. But... is there a way to insert a 3d orthotropic material in hypermesh with NASTRAN interface? or this option is not available yet? Does anyone have some idea how i can proceed?
  17. Meshing Midsurface

    Hi, I am a newbie with HyperMesh and I do not really know how to do this... I am trying to model a thin thickness semisphere with a shell mesh but the middle of the semisphere it has to be meshed with 3D elements for crack analysis purpose. It will be very useful if someone knows how to create a mesh of the midsurface and how to convert a part of that mesh to a HEX mesh, or an alternative method to do this because I am really lost with this. If the model is for example a planar plate, it is very easy to do this defining two different parts, a midsurface and a solid part,but with curved objects I am having trouble... Regards. Gus.
