  1. Hi everyone, What is better approach to connect a 2D shell element to a 1D element? I have a assembly with 3 components, 1 bracket modeled by 2D elements which carries the load, 1 plate modeled by 2D elements likewise, where the bracket is lay and also, shall be interface component between bracket and beam component and 1 beam component modeled by 1D elements where loads and displacements must be transfered. The connection between bracket and plate was modeled by Cbush elements which represents bolts stiffness, therefore, my concern is how can I model the connection between plate and beam to represent a weld? I have attached a picture which it clarifies my problem. The green one is a bracket, red is a plate and magenta is a beam. Thank you, Richard
  2. Hi, I am relatively new to hypermesh, please help me with the following queries. Thanks for your time. Query 1: I have to model a beam element with square cross-section which comes in contact with 2D shell and represent the connection between them. For example, if the beam was a hollow square tube and a sheet metal comes in contact as illustrated in the picture below. Is there a way to represent the centroid of the tube on the midsurface of the sheet metal just by providing the offset distance, instead of representing the connection between them using rigids. I would also like to identify where the bar’s central axis lay in relation to the connection points. Query 2 : How to view the 1D elements in 3D representation, showing the cross-section and the orientation of the element with respect to the sheetmetal. ( in this case as shown below)
  3. I'm trying to incorporate mesh independent 1D spotweld/rigid/beam elements between 2/more BIW panels via contact interface and seem unable to execute. Error: *** ERROR # 2371 *** SET SSID on CONTACT 1 is empty. (1D elements in slave set)
  4. Hi, I am using Hyperworks (V13) to analysis 1D beam and rod. I used 3 pairs of Rev joint for point 3 as I don't know if there is any better way to join 3 part together. I created 4 bodys as PRBody. I created SIM, force SPC load collectors. But it always give me errors. such as *** WARNING # 1200 Incorrect or inconsistent data found in $HMxx cards. (Obsolete data format or errors because of manual editing.). All HyperMesh specific data will be skipped from input files. Component information in the output file will be missing.To rebuild this information - read back and recreate input file using HyperMesh. This happened in line 197 of file "C:/My_Folder/V2.fem": $ 40 39 38 37 36 35 34 33 32 Force can't be referred. I am really struggling here, Is there any body can help ? Many thanks. Sophie V2.hm
  5. Differences between CBEAM and CMBEAM

    Dear all, I am building an elastic multi-body dynamic model and I need to model the screws connecting some parts in the model. I plan to model the screws as 1D beam elements. I have seen that I have two options, CBEAM and CMBEAM. The documentation says: CBEAM: The CBEAM bulk data entry defines a beam element (BEAM) of the structural model. CMBEAM: Defines a beam element for multi-body dynamics solution sequence without reference to a property entry. I'm leaning towards CMBEAM more as it specifically states the element is for multi-body dynamics. But I don't quite understand the differences between the two. I have seen CMS models which use CBEAM instead of CMBEAM so it seems it is indeed possible to use CBEAM in an elastic MBD analysis. I would be grateful for any further information regarding the differences between CBEAM and CMBEAM, as well as which one should be used for an MBD analysis comprising flexbodies.   9. Rocker Modeling and Spring Orient

    Hello, I'm trying to set up a simple rocker model using 1D elements for the actual bell crank in Hypermesh and then applying the force at one end of the rocker and then attaching a spring CELAS to the other side, my issue is that for some reason the whole model is blowing up under the loadstep, I'm not sure how to use the DOF for the spring modeled in blue, but I tried to use the correct pin flags on the 1Ds for the rocker so it's constrained to in-plane. I attahed the .hm file as well, any help is appreciated, thanks. 1d rocker.hm
  10. 1D BEAM ANALYSIS

    Hi, I am currently carrying out a 1D beam analysis. My results and the contour on my beam seems patchy and unclear. I have attached the file of the beam and results for you to understand. It is a distributed load of 150N between 32mm-109mm and 222mm-299mm. Could you please tell me how to make the contour line more visible.     Hi, I have a question on spotweld connectors. I have the following two components with shell mesh. I have a hard time choosing which option to use in spotweld. Pls help me. Please explain which one we should use and when? 1) Mesh Dependent - adjust realization- find nearest nodes 2) Mesh Dependent - adjust realization- project and find nodes 3) Mesh Dependent - adjust realization- ensure projection 4) Mesh Dependent - adjust mesh- remesh 5) Mesh Dependent - adjust mesh- smooth 6) Mesh Dependent - quad transition- imprint 7) Mesh Dependent - quad transition- skip imprint Which method is good and if I use different methods will I get different results? I have used (Mesh Dependent - adjust mesh- remesh) but then I feel that when I do this because of remesh my elements become smaller and fail in quality. Thanks, Datta
  12. Connector 1D Bar to 2D Shell

    Hi, I tried to connect a 1D Bar (comp id 1) element with a 2D Shell. But when I create a connector Spot weld I always get the error “failed: Link entity 1 (comp id 1) does not have a projection”. Is it not possible to connect a Bar element with a Shell element using connectors? Kind Regards, Simon
  13. Hi everyone, I have a question about 1d element with varying cross section. Is it possible to use such elements with optistruct? I have tried CBEAM as an element and property PBEAML, I ve tried everything and I cant figure it out. I ve tried using the PBEAML card option "pbeamlintstationslen" for dividing element into different cross sections but it doenst work. Can anyone guide me on this subject?     Hey, when connecting my Beam Section(created with Hyperbeam) to my 1d elements the shear center of my profil is aligned on the origin of my 1D Element. Is there any option to choose an other axis of the profil to align on the element origin? Thank you.

  17. Hello, I am new to Optistruct and having a repeating error for my 1D linear static free shape optimization of truss. When I try to run it w/Optistruct, the error that I get is: *** ERROR # 7315 *** No DSHAPE grids are on the boundary. Any ideas about a possible reason for this error? I checked card of DSHAPE and everything looks ok. Thanks, kosa26
  18. Hello Everyone, I was looking for support with my FEA model. I don't have any pictures at the moment but hopefully I can explain what's going on and get some models/pictures later. Problem Statement: A curved beam with section centroid at a 6 in radius from a centerline spans 180 degrees and is fixed at one end while an 8000 in-lb moment is applied at the other. What are the stresses on the inside and the outside of the beam? Compare rectangular, circular, and trapezoidal sections with constant cross sectional area. Approach: I imported the arc from a simple iges definition file. I then line mesh with PBEAM elements. Cross sections have been defined correctly in the beamsection collector. Steel material has been generated. Properties for the sections have been created. This property is assigned to the mesh. Loads are put in their separate SPC and MOMENT load collectors. These collectors are passed to the SPC and LOAD parameters of the load step. Optistruct runs and produces the h3d file. Results: For some reason the stress at recovery points C and E for all elements are equal. This doesn't seem right to me. I would like to think that not only would the stress vary from recovery point C to E, but it would also vary (and increase) as the constraint is approached. However, the displacement of the elements and magnitude of said displacement DOES look correct. Can anyone provide insight as to why the SAMAX and SAMIN are equal for all the elements in this mesh? Thanks. EDIT: I've uploaded the result. The BCs are fully fixed on one end and 8000 (in-lbf) applied to the other end. Element is CBEAM with round section of radius 0.97. I'm using units system inch-slug-second. Can anyone help me out here? I'd upload the model file as well but apparently I'm not permitted to upload it.

    Hi. I would like not to mesh a component but account for it creating a mass by the panel 1D --> masses. Though, I do not know what the procedure is. I guess 1. I have to create firstly a property PMASS (create or create/edit?) 2.Then maybe I have to go the panel 1D--> masses. Which elem types do I have to set? Thank you.

Hi everyBody I have a steel frame with a steel plate in the centre, with applied a pressure load; at the exteems of frame i have 4 constrains locking DOF1 DOF2 and DOF3; I have used beam element to create the frame and shell elements to create the plate; I have applied a certain pressure on the shell elements, but i need a impulsive load, how can i create it? How can i perform a transient modal analysis? witch load collectors i need to create? Here there are three images to help you to understand. After that i have to output the values of bending moments, shear and normal stress near a intersection of 3 beams element in the frame; then model the intersection with a 3D and apply the loads i have found from the transient modal Analysis. Where can i reed these kind of values concerning a node of the frame? thank for the support Damir

Hello at all, during a topology optimization of a wireframe of a student racecar the check before optimizing gives the following error: A fatal error has been detected during input processing: *** ERROR # 6001 *** Two of the vectors defined on DTPL card 1 are aligned. I don´t know what to do now. At the end of this text i add a dropbox link to my hm-file, so maybe someone of you can have a look and give me tipps to solve my prob. I guess it could be the connection between the beams (1D) and the design space (solid). i equivalenced them with the equivalence function (in menu SHIFT+F3) in compliance with a small warpage.
